WoW Gold Grinding – 5 Profitable Spots For Grinding Gold

Grinding Gold

Grinding gold in WoW can be both very rewarding and very frustrating. Whilst there are various (though some little-known) spots where you can grind a high rate of gold per hour, many players find the process extremely boring. Many gold farming experts advise to leave WoW gold grinding to Chinese gold farmers, who dominate most spots on popular servers, and instead focus on more profitable, less intensive farming techniques.

Nevertheless, if you enjoy grinding mob after mob, waiting for that rare drop and watching your gold-count go up and up, here are some recommended WoW gold grinding spots for you:

Level 12-20 – Defias Windmill

Head over to the Defias Windmill in Westfall and you will find yourself a group of Defias Trappers. These human mobs have a 90%+ drop rate on Linen Cloth, but that’s not the best part. For some reason, and it’s been like this for a long time, the mobs respawn at an immensely fast rate – so fast that you’ll struggle to kill them all before they start respawning!

From just level 12 you’ll find yourself stacking up linen cloth and making a tidy profit at the Auction House. Some grinders continue hitting this spot way into their mid-20’s, so you might have some competition.

Level 40 – Scarlet Monastery (Graveyard)

One of the major downfalls of grinding is potential competition from other gamers or professional gold farming operations. This is what makes the Scarlet Monastery (and other instances) so appealing for grinding – no worry about being ganked and no other players to compete with.

The Graveyard section of the Scarlet Monastery provides one special mob that is particularly profitable for grinding; the Unfettered Spirits. Make your way up the stairs and you’ll find these mobs roaming around with Anguished Undeads and Haunting Phantasms (both Elites). You’d be best advised to stick to the Unfettered Spirits as they can be taken down easily and drop Elite-like loot.

Level 60 – Deadwind Pass

Runecloth is still a sought after commodity in the Auction House and stacks will fetch you a decent return. Head over to Deadwind Pass and find yourself groups of Ogres (varying from levels 50-58). These mobs have a high drop rate for Runecloth as well as dropping 7-8 silver per mob.

This an another spot, similar to Defias Windmill above, where mobs will respawn quickly and never have you waiting around, but be warned; this is a popular area for professional gold farmers on medium and high population servers.

Level 70 – Arklon Ruins (Netherstorm)

The Arklon Ruins in Netherstorm used to be a decent Mote farming spot until it was nerfed, but still remains a profitable grinding spot. Be on the lookout for Artifact Seekers and Felblade Doomguards, who have a high drop rate of both Marks of Sargeras and Fel Armaments.

This spot is particularly good to build up some exceptional Aldor reputation, or alternatively head on over to the Auction House to make a decent return on selling your wares. Though not as competitive a spot since the release of Wrath of the Lich King, this can still be a popular spot where you might find yourself competing with multiple grinders.

Level 80 – Northrend

Found a little south of Venompsire in Dragonblight, Northrend is a dream for AoE classes but can be taken advantage of by any class. A ground mount is advised to search the area for the groups of several humanoids that roam the area. These can be quickly dispatched as a group and then it’s a simple case of collecting your coin and any worthwhile items.

This is a reasonably good spot for high level players, allowing you to achieve 80-100g per hour if you’re an efficient grinder.

The fact is that unless you’re a big fan of grinding or are skilled at doing something brainless whilst watching a movie, grinding in isolation is a thing of the past. To really take advantage of the areas above (and even more profitable spots) you need to adopt advanced strategies to boost your gold making potential.

Brad Johnson, expert farmer and author of Warcraft Millionaire, comments that whilst WoW gold grinding isn’t dead, it needs to be combined with increase efficiency methods and advanced auction house strategies to be effective. The big money simply isn’t being made in grinding WoW gold anymore – it’s being made in much less time intensive and much more profitable ways.
